Lures for pike are time-tested and tested by thousands of anglers for pike fishing. These days there are many more modern spinning lures made of silicone or plastic, but shiners for pike are still used by many anglers.
Construction of shiners for pike
Lures for pike are curved oval or elongated metal plates. The upper and lower parts of this plate have one hole each, a fishing line with a leash is attached to the upper hole through the ring, and a treble hook is attached to the lower one, also through the ring.
Different metals can be used to make glitter: steel, copper, brass or lead. The gloss surface can be simply sanded, and it can also be coated with enamel, chrome or nickel. The color and its shine will depend on the metal itself and the type of coating.
Lures for pike can be of various shapes: wide, narrow, flattened and elongated. The choice of color and shape depends on the reservoir where the fish is fished and the fishing conditions.
Glitter imitates a fish running away from a predator chasing it. Appearance plays a secondary role compared to the performance of the gloss in the water. Predatory fish, first of all, focus on the lateral linear organ, which senses the vibration emanating from the prey, and only then by sight. This is why the correct play of the gloss in the water is so important.
The nature of the game depends on the design of the spinner. For pike fishing, the optimal spinning length to width ratio is often 3:4. Shorter spinners with a smaller length-to-width ratio work more energetically, but their performance is less stable and often becomes erratic as the reel speed increases.spin. Long spoons with a larger ratio of length to width play less energetically, often such spoons are curved in both length and width.
In some lures, a thin red plastic petal hangs from the treble, which disguises the hook and makes what is called an attack point pikes.
There are a lot of glossy models in stores, so choosing the right one is quite difficult. When choosing a shiny pike, many factors must be taken into account: time of year and day, body of water, weather conditions during fishing.
Advantages of gloss
- Lures for pike have good flight characteristics due to their high weight and simplified shape. Among all spinning lures, they have the longest casting distance.
- When fishing with a shiner, you can use different types of passes: smooth, smooth with pauses and stops, etc.
- Lures are cheap baits for pike compared to other spinning baits.
- Lures are much more durable than silicone lures and wobblers.
- Lures are easy to DIY compared to other spinning lures.
Gloss flaws
- Lures are more expensive than silicone lures.
- Lures are designed for fishing in the water layer. It makes no sense to use them along the bottom or near the surface of the water.
- While fishing pike in places where there is a lot of algae and grass, shiners do not always work well due to the frequent snagging on them. In such places, it is better to use silicone baits or surface baits wobblers.
Selection of lures for pike
Pike are found in various water bodies, in various climatic conditions. The correct selection of bait suitable for specific fishing conditions is decisive fishing the result. There are many different factors to consider when choosing a gloss.
Lures for pike can be of a wide variety of colors: from natural colors to the brightest acid colors, from dull metallic to shiny. All colors catch pike. The fisherman must choose the color of the shine for a specific body of water, for a specific day. There is only one way to do this: trial and error.
The bait must be visible to the fish in the water, so it is better to use brighter colored baits on a cloudy day, and darker and duller ones on a bright sunny day.
Shiny lures are great at attracting pike and can be very effective, but when fishing you should not use spoons that are too polished, as they can scare pike away with too bright a shine.
In clear water, black spoons show good results, they are clearly visible in the water and therefore very attractive.
When fishing for pike, don't be afraid to use big shiners. Baits with a length of 7-8 to 12 cm show good efficiency when catching pike. In those reservoirs where it is possible to catch a very large pike, the size of the shiner can be increased to 15 cm.
For glossy pike, the weight is selected depending on the depth of the reservoir where fishing is done. Heavier glitters are used where they are deeper, lighter ones - where they are seedier.
When choosing shiny pike, buy bait from a well-known, time-tested company whose products will stand out in terms of quality and reliability.
I bought a gloss. I didn't like it as a gate, I went ashore, I just hit it with a stone. Three pike that day. More than 130 pike in a series of years. And I had to swim to unhook it. And understand what they need.
Pikes are very picky sometimes 🙂
I spent my entire childhood catching with Kibs glitter. It was one of the best. As I remember now, they cost 3-4 Litas each 🙂
