What are fishing rods made of?

Rods usually consist of several components that work together to make fishing easier. Here are the main parts of the fishing rod:

Rod form: the blank is the main body of the rod, usually made of light and flexible materials such as graphite, fiberglass, etc. It gives strength and flexibility to the rod.

Handle: the handle is the part of the rod that you hold while fishing. It is usually made of materials such as cork or EVA for comfortable fishing. The handle may also have a reel holder to which a fishing reel is attached.

Reel holder: The reel seat is the part where the fishing reel is attached. This is usually a metal or graphite component with a locking mechanism that reliably holds the coil.

Rings: rings are small circular rings attached along the length of the rod. They help guide the line and prevent it from tangling when casting. The rings are usually made of materials such as ceramic, metal or plastic and decrease in size from the reel seat towards the end of the rod.

Back cover: the back cap is the protective cap on the bottom end of the rod. It gives the rod a finished look.

These are the main components of a fishing rod, but remember that different rods, models and fishing methods may have different components.

What kind of fishing rods are there?

Spinning

Spinning is the most popular type of fishing among amateurs and professionals. There are many spinning rods for different fishing methods, but they have one purpose: to catch predatory fish using different baits. You can fish with spinning both from the shore and from a boat. Such fishing rods differ in the following indicators such as: length, cast test, etc. The shaft is available in one part or two parts. The recommended weight (test) of baits is given in grams or ounces. Usually, the manufacturer indicates two values directly on the rod - the minimum weight that can be cast with this rod and the maximum weight that the bait does not overload when cast. Bolognese fishing rod

This fishing rod was invented in Bologna, Italy, from where it got its name. This type fishing rod is of float type. The main difference from the classic floating fishing rod is the possibility of fishing at a greater distance from the shore. This type of rod has guide rings for the line and a holder for the reel.

Match rods

This is a method of float fishing invented in England, also called "long cast". Mastering the technique requires some time, but the costs justify themselves, because it is a rather large fish that does not come close to the shore. This rod is used by experienced anglers. Compared to the Bologna rod, the length of the match rods is not so long. However, due to their construction and the use of special floats, they allow the angler to make very long casts and fish at a great distance from themselves. The rod has many rings on high legs that ensure good line travel.

Feeder rod

Feeder rod for fishing from the bottom with continuous casting of bait to the fishing spot. After casting, the bait is washed out of the feeder - part of it will be eaten by the fish, part will spread along the bottom, creating a so-called fishing point.

The main difference of the feeder is that it has many rings, as well as a thin and soft tip, which is the main indicator of baiting. Feeder rods, unlike others, have one unique feature. A soft tip is attached to the end of the rod to accurately determine the baiting moment. Such a tip is painted in a bright color that differs from the color of the main stem. After the cast, the fisherman removes the slack in the line until the rod tip is taut. The hook is determined when the fish starts to shake the tip.

Fly rods

The principle of fly fishing is to simulate the entry of an insect into the water. Various artificial flies are used as bait for fly fishing. Fly rods are divided into single-handed and double-handed, and the one-handed is best for beginners. The fly rod has several significant differences. First, the location of the coil, it is at the back of the handle. Second, the non-standard shape of the rings. Thirdly, the line is not monofilament or braided like on all fishing rods, but special cord.

Casting

When fishing with this type of rod, you can use the same baits that are characteristic of ordinary spinning. However, casting has a number of features that open up new opportunities for the fisherman and add special excitement to the fishing process itself. Modern manufacturers have managed to combine all the necessary parameters needed to use different types of lures.

The advantage of casting is lightness and increased sensitivity to baits. For convenience, the casting rod is equipped with a thumb support point, which allows you to hold the rod more firmly.
