Fishing Winter Spinning. What Should a Newcomer Pay Attention to?

For many fishing the white "flies" of enthusiasts outside the window and the bitter cold remind us that it's time to sharpen the ice auger blades and check the winter bait box. But fortunately for some of us, the effects of civilization can have a positive effect, in this case, rivers that don't freeze. There are quite a few of them, but many questions arise: how to dress, what to take with you, how to behave in difficult weather conditions, etc. This is what we will try to find out - what to pay attention to when choosing fishing in winter spinning from the shore.

Clothing

Let's start with the main thing - the outfit. After all, not only comfortable fishing depends on it, but also our health. Clothing for spinning fishing in winter should be chosen, in my opinion, according to two criteria: warmth and comfort. Why them? In ice fishing, the first factor is much more important, and comfort is secondary. In winter spinning, there is much more movement in catching and some freedom is needed. If you can fish from the ice, conditionally, and with a sheepskin, then you will not be able to cast a spinning reel with such clothes.

During the experiments, I chose thermal clothing underneath, a warm, not thick sweater and a demi-season fishing suit that protects against wind and precipitation. The last piece of equipment seems to me to be one of the most important. Specifically, it doesn't have to be a special suit, but wind protection is a must. For example, when fishing from the ice, you can turn either way upwind and protect yourself from its direct impact. However, with spinning fishing, the coast may be without bends, nooks and crannies on the shore, and there will be no opportunities to hide from the strong wind. Therefore, it is important that the outer clothes are warm.

No less important are the shoes. Fortunately, technology does not stand still and has led to the emergence of shoes made of EVA material. This is by far the best footwear for winter spinning, because it allows you not only to not freeze in the cold, but also to enter the water without fear.

In cold weather, we can't do without gloves either. Everyone will have their own preferences, but my favorite are gloves with a fold-over top and open fingers. Otherwise, you'll have to worry about changing lures because you'll have to take off your gloves every time to change lures or re-tie the leash in case of a break.

Fishing in winter with spinning - Equipment

Special ones, of course spinning gear no fishing in winter. These are all the same rods, reels and lures that are used to fish in the warm season. However, you can make spinning fishing in winter easier by choosing the most suitable lures for winter.

First of all, you need to pay attention to the rings, or rather their diameter. It is clear that the higher it is, the longer the flowers will not freeze, and in certain conditions there will be no freezing at all. With small rings, winter spin fishing becomes hard work... Especially when the wind blows. Therefore, when choosing a spinning rod for winter fishing, the diameter of the rings should be taken into account.

In addition to the rings, attention should be paid to the handle. If there are plastic elements at the point of adhesion, they can slide in the cold. As for the material itself, EVA or cork - there is practically no difference in amateur fishing.

When it comes to coils, there is no iron rule. According to the reviews of most fishermen, multipliers are inconvenient to use, because water gets into the reel mechanism and often freezes there, which causes various negative consequences ...

Non-inertial coils, on the other hand, are perfect and there are no such problems with them. Of course, dropping it into water in the cold will have the same effect, but under normal conditions, it is better protected from water ingress and ice only accumulates on the outside of the coil. True, there is a moment that I would like to pay attention to - when winding the line on a reel, it must be firmly attached to the drum. In winter, the line can spin around the reel drum and winter fishing with spinning is over. To avoid these consequences, it is enough to fix the cleaner assembly with good old electrical tape. The braided line itself should be used not too thick and preferably smooth, with impregnation. Otherwise, it will carry a lot of water with it, which will settle on the rings and freeze permanently.

Additional tips

Even if the above requirements are met, winter fishing with spinning can be not the most pleasant and waste a lot of the fisherman's nerves. To facilitate this process, attention should be paid to improvised means to cope with bad weather.

The first stage of preparation begins with the processing of the flowers. To do this, you need a hygienic lip balm and, depending on the diameter of the rings, a cotton swab. With their help, we apply an invisible layer of lip balm on the rings and they will freeze less.

The second stage is related to the processing of braided line. Various tools can help us with this, the most popular of which are silicone sprays and baby oil. I've had to use a variety of sprays, from car sprays to specialty fishing sprays. As for the difference, I didn't notice it. But I use plain oil. Oil (Johnson's Baby) is a simple and safe, but less convenient option. The sprayer can be quickly used to spray on the reel even while fishing. It is best to treat the line at home warm. Along the way, it will soak up the fishing and winter spinning fishing will be much more enjoyable.
